What's Next?

That is the big question, isn’t it? The question that everyone seems to be asking (especially if you’re college/career age). Maybe you know (or think you know) exactly what God has in store for your future. You feel completely and utterly sure about what God has called you to do, and maybe that calling involves missions. If that is you, we at MissioSERVE would love to help you and your church explore your next steps together. Or, maybe you are juggling a few different possibilities. You feel that itch for corporate success, yet there’s still that lingering desire that creeps into your thoughts in quiet moments of contemplation, urging you to consider if you might be called to abandon all those dreams for worldly success and pursue a mission of eternal value. If that is you, maybe it's time to take a leap of faith and explore the possibility of missions through an internship with MissioSERVE.

These are uncertain times, for sure. And to be perfectly honest, no matter how certain you feel about your future, it’s really not up to you to determine. Ten years ago, I never could have dreamed that I would be working with MissioSERVE Alliance, helping train and mobilize the next generation of missionaries. I was coming out of high school, ready to pursue a career in teaching or counseling, and never giving a thought to missions. Then, over the course of one summer missions internship, I was captivated by the Mission of God and ready to devote my life to becoming a missionary. I never did end up going to the mission field (not yet, anyway, but only God knows my future), instead, God saw fit to give me a family of my own and a ministry with MissioSERVE to help mobilize and equip others with the same passion.

Life does not always turn out the way we expect. Our future is in the hands of a sovereign God who, by His grace, chooses to use us (flaws and all) to fulfill His purposes in the world. So, does that mean we shouldn’t make plans? Or should be aimless in all our pursuits unless we’ve received a divine message from God? No. We ought to be wise and discerning, using the opportunities and gifts God has given us to bless others in everyday moments, and do our best to pursue His will in obedience to His Word and the power of His Spirit. In everything we do, we commit to God in prayer and we hold it with an open hand, as humble servants and stewards of the grace given to us. And always, we should be willing to embrace the call of God on our lives, willing to sacrifice for the glory of Christ, willing to abandon our comforts, and willing to walk by faith into an uncertain future.

And when we look back one day as our time on earth draws to a close, after enduring trials and suffering hardship for the sake of Christ’s glory among the lost, we should find that we would not have wanted to spend our lives doing anything else. Our days are few, so let us make them count for eternity.
